*** Bug-Free and Other Items... ***

Did you know where the term "bug" comes from?

According to PC World Magazine (Page 45 of the October, 2003 issue), "Back in 1947, Grace Murray Hopper was toiling away at Harvard's Mark II computer and found a moth lodged in the components. She extricated the ill-fated beastie and pasted it into the computer's logbook, with the notation 'First actual case of bug being found.' The terms bug and debugging entered the vernacular almost immediately thereafter. The famous moth now resides in the Smithsonian."

Flack from Last Week's Newsletter

Most people appreciated the information, however, a few of you misunderstood my comments below...

"In addition, emails do work. I hope you like receiving our emails. Actually, it doesn't matter if you like it or not!!! Ten percent of you respond positively to our emails. That means more sales for us and more people who remember who Budget POS is. However, it also means that if you do it through CRE, you will also receive more sales, free marketing and advertising, and increased presence in your particular market."

A few of you were taken aback by my statement that it did not matter to me if you like receiving my emails or not. My point is that if you email to 1000 customers, 50 will respond to you. This is a marketing tool. It does not matter if some of your customers do not like your emails. Some of them won't. If you are using a valid marketing tool, you will increase business from your customers who appreciate your emails. Those who don't like receiving your email will let you know (as long as you always give your readers a method of opting out of your email list). Remember, your customers are voluntarily giving you their email address. But, yes, I do care that our customers and your customers like receiving emails. Our mutual goal is increased sales and emails do work.

A Nifty New Report

We have now added a new Zero Movement Report to Cash Register Express. This report shows you a list of all items that have not been sold within a date/time range. Regular use of the Zero Movement Report will show you what is not selling. So, what do you do with an item that has 0 sales in a given amount of time? I suppose nothing if you own an art store and the item is a one-of-a-kind work of art. On the other hand, you may think differently if you own a busy clothing store and a particular item has been on the shelf for months without a single buyer. It's time for a big sale!!! Use the Zero Movement Report along with Velocity Reports to maximize the amount of space you use for items in your store.
