Professional Uniforms Center is a family owned business that provides medical apparel and accessories to the hospitals and nursing homes in the area. The store, located in Victoria, TX, also serves many nursing and medical students that attend the nearby colleges. The family opened their store 31 years ago, and has been offering items such as medical scrubs, EMT pants, boots, shoes, and medical accessories such as stethoscopes.

Organizing with Point of Sale

For its first 24 years in business, the Professional Uniforms Center was using a cash register to track their sales. The only downside to the growth of their business was the amount of paperwork that came along with it. According to one of the managers, Shanda Sala, "We wanted to get more organized with our inventory, simplify our ordering and be able to view reports easily, instead of sorting through paperwork to see what was sold." In 1997, the owners selected Cash Register Express, a retail point of sale system, to organize their business. "It's great that we can bring up an item and see when we've last sold it. A few buttons on the keyboard provides us with whatever data we're looking for."

Faster then a Cash Register

Before computerizing, the staff in the store had to write down each item that was being purchased. Carlos Sala, co-manager of the store, notes "Time-wise, our customers are happy that we switched from a cash register to a point of sale system. Scanning the items with a bar code scanner takes a few seconds for a transaction, versus the many minutes it took with a cash register." Less time spent during the checkout process allows more time to give their customers personal attention.

Long Lasting Relationship

The owners and staff of the Professional Uniforms Center have been using Cash Register Express for over seven years. Budget POS has always been easily reachable, which has given Carlos and Shanda the opportunity to give suggestions on new features. Carlos has been "impressed that when I make suggestions, Budget POS actually listens to them. I suggested a change that would cut a step off of receiving merchandise; a couple of weeks later, I was using the new feature." Overall, they are very happy with their choice of point of sale system. "Being a small business, it helps to be automated. You're working for yourself and for your family, it helps us to be organized. Less confusion and more time results in more sales."
